Amazon Appstore for Android Shutting Down

Amazon Appstore for Android Shutting Down

Amazon is phasing out its Amazon Appstore for Android devices, officially ceasing operations on Wednesday, August 20th. This decision marks the end of Amazon's attempt to compete with the dominant Google Play Store within the Android ecosystem. The company had previously closed its app store on Windows operating systems earlier this year.

It's important to note that the Appstore will continue to function normally on Amazon's own Fire TV and Fire Tablet devices.

According to a statement provided to Android news sources, Amazon's strategic shift is geared towards concentrating resources on enhancing the Appstore experience specifically for their Fire devices, citing that the majority of their Appstore user base engages with the platform on these devices.

Concurrently with the Appstore closure, the Amazon Coins program will also be discontinued on August 20th. This may result in certain users receiving refunds.
