Android & Pixel Updates: Luggage Tracking, App Discovery, & More

Google recently unveiled a suite of enhancements for Android and Pixel devices, with a focus on convenience and user experience.

For Android, a notable addition is a new way to track lost luggage. By using Find Hub-compatible tracker tags and sharing a secure link with participating airlines, users can now assist in locating their misplaced bags. This link, valid for seven days, automatically deactivates when the luggage is reunited with its owner. Several major airlines are already on board, with more expected to join.

Beyond baggage tracking, Android users will benefit from real-time location sharing within Google Messages. Google Play is also getting a video feed to simplify app discovery. Personalizing calls is now easier with "Calling Cards" in the Phone app, offering a customizable contact screen appearance. Furthermore, Android Auto is introducing an educational gaming experience for children aged 3 to 12.

Pixel phones are receiving updates to their "Circle to Search" feature. A "Find the Look" tool can now identify individual clothing items within an outfit, and a "Try It On" function allows users to virtually model outfits pulled from various media. The "At a Glance" widget is also enhanced, providing live transit updates, sports scores, and financial market information on home and lock screens.

Pixel Watch users will receive alerts if they leave their phones behind, with the watch capable of automatically locking the phone when out of range. Pixel Watch 3 introduces gesture controls, enabling one-handed operation for answering calls, taking photos, or managing workouts.
