Jeep Recon EV is Still On Track for Next Spring Launch

Recent speculation surrounding the Jeep Recon, the all-electric off-road SUV slated for production, can finally be put to rest. Despite parent company Stellantis scaling back on some of its EV initiatives, the Recon is very much alive and kicking, according to Jeep's top executive.
The whispers of cancellation arose amidst Stellantis's strategic shift, which saw revisions to Ram truck electrification plans and the discontinuation of certain Dodge EV trims. Understandably, observers questioned the fate of the Recon, a vehicle positioned to be a significant player in Jeep's electric future.
However, the brand is ready to reaffirm its commitment to the Recon. The final production model is expected to debut soon, with sales targeted to begin next spring. This Wrangler-esque EV is designed to deliver exceptional off-road capability, even taking on the formidable Rubicon Trail.
A Refined Off-Road Experience
The Recon is not intended to be a Wrangler replacement but rather a complementary offering. Riding on the STLA Large platform, it aims for a more refined off-road experience. While the Wrangler, eventually slated for an electric version on the STLA Frame platform, will retain its position as the ultimate Jeep off-road icon, the Recon offers a compelling blend of electric power and trail-ready features.
Anticipate a range of approximately 350 miles. The silent operation promises a more harmonious interaction with nature. Also, it is expected that key features like electronic locking differentials, the Selec-Terrain traction management system, protective skid plates, robust tow hooks, and optimized approach and departure angles will be included. The Recon should also feature removable doors and a retractable cloth roof.
Navigating the Evolving EV Market
Despite fluctuations in EV adoption rates and the sunsetting of certain tax incentives, Jeep remains optimistic about the long-term potential of electric vehicles and the Recon. While some regions might see slower EV sales due to shifting consumer priorities, markets with strong EV demand are expected to maintain their interest.
Jeep believes it's crucial to proceed with the Recon launch, even if initial sales volumes are modest. By bringing the vehicle to market, they can gather real-world data, refine their approach, and solidify their position in the burgeoning electric off-road segment.
Production Flexibility
The Recon will be manufactured at the Toluca plant in Mexico, alongside the Wagoneer S, the Jeep Cherokee, and the Compass, all based on the STLA Large platform. This co-location enables manufacturing flexibility, allowing Jeep to adjust production volumes based on demand. If Recon sales are lower than projected, the plant can shift resources to meet demand for other models like the Cherokee.
More Wrangler News on the Horizon
Beyond the Recon, Jeep promises more updates on the future of the Wrangler. The brand is determined to dominate the off-road segment with a powerful combination of the Wrangler and Recon. These vehicles represent the core of Jeep's DNA, and the company is investing heavily in their continued success.
